Recreation & Conservation Policy

Outdoor Alliance works to protect and promote sustainable, equitable access for outdoor recreation through advocating for new legislation, collaboration with land managers, and protections for public lands and waters. Along with promoting improved legislation, we defend critical conservation policy and the public process to ensure all Americans have a say over their public lands and waters. EXPLORE Act

With outdoor recreation participation growing, Outdoor Alliance helped conceive of and advocate for the passage of the EXPLORE Act, which included the Simplifying Outdoor Access for Recreation (SOAR) Act. Outdoor Alliance and our members are now working to implement the EXPLORE Act.

Roadless Rule Protection

The Roadless Rule is a tool that protects many of our most valued backcountry recreation areas across the country. Roadless forests are also the source of clean air, clean water, and habitat. Right now, roadless forests are facing a significant threat.

Protecting the Public Process

Outdoor Alliance works to defend core conservation laws that allow the public to respond to changes on our public lands and waters. This includes defense of NEPA, public comment periods, and the rights of individuals to have a legitimate voice in changes to land management.

Mining Reform

Conflicts between mining and recreation are ramping up, highlighting the need to bring mining laws into the 21st century to both protect outdoor recreation and to make mining more predictable and responsible in the transition to renewable energy. Outdoor Alliance advocates for commonsense mining reform that will protect the safety and health of local communities and allow land managers to protect special places on public lands.
