Recreating During Fire Season with OnX Backcountry
Recreating during fire season requires a cautious and responsible approach. Last week, we joined OnX Maps for a discussion on how to use onX Backcountry to plan around active wildfires, current air quality, impacts from historic wildfires, and what trails are impacted by all of the above. We also cover how recreationists can support a fire-resilient future by taking action locally, speaking up politically, and contributing to trail restoration projects after a fire.
Outdoor recreationists have a role to play in both understanding fire and advocating for the best ways to address, prevent, and recover from severe fire. Outdoor Alliance’s report, “Wildfire and Outdoor Recreation in the West” digs deep into why fires have gotten so severe, the effects of megafires on the outdoors, and strategies for better addressing and mitigating the risk of severe fire.
