Today, Outdoor Alliance shared our enthusiasm about the Biden administration’s recent report on Conserving and Restoring America the Beautiful, which commits to conserving 30 percent of public lands and waters by the year 2030. Outdoor Alliance has advocated for the protection of public lands and waters for fifteen years, with the belief that everyone in America should have access to places to get outside and that conserving our natural resources is central to our values as a nation.

“We applaud the Biden administration’s commitment to this ambitious, locally-led conservation effort, which will benefit communities across the country and help protect clean air, clean water, biodiversity, and our natural environment,” said Adam Cramer, CEO of Outdoor Alliance. “Conserving and Restoring America the Beautiful is an opportunity to reset how we think about conservation in America, with benefits to communities across the country.

“We are impressed by how the Biden administration is approaching this challenge and considering how to harness the productive power of American lands and waters and extend that to all people and all communities. Conserving lands and waters, both the far-away and the close-to-home, will strengthen the American economy, create more equitable access to the outdoors, and mitigate the effects of climate change and habitat loss that threaten the country.

“Done right, 30x30 will be a win-win-win solution, improving outdoor access, building strong economies, and protecting communities. Tribal governments, private landowners and ranchers, and local and state government will be key to these efforts being successful and providing benefits for everyone in America.”

Louis Geltman, Outdoor Alliance’s Policy Director, said, “We are fired up to see the administration tackling the interrelated issues of biodiversity and habitat loss, equitable access to the outdoors, and the social and economic benefits of conservation through its Conserving and Restoring America the Beautiful initiative. The report presents a vision for helping a wide array of communities realize their own conservation ambitions. From an outdoor recreation standpoint, we are particularly excited to see the goal of using land management planning to identify and protect outdoor recreation resources as an example of a valuable opportunity for early progress.”

Earlier this year, Outdoor Alliance released a policy report exploring how outdoor recreationists can support 30x30, which you can find here.
