Outdoor Alliance Supports Outdoor Industry In Finding New Home for Outdoor Retailer
Yesterday, Outdoor Industry Association and leaders from Patagonia, The North Face, REI, and Outdoor Retailer met with Utah Governor Gary Herbert to discuss the future of Outdoor Retailer in Utah, and that meeting did little to ease tensions between the outdoor community and Utah lawmakers. Earlier in the week, we posted a response to recent debates about the future of the Outdoor Retailer show. Though we have loved visiting Salt Lake City twice a year for the Outdoor Retailer show, Utah’s state legislators and Congressional delegation have been taking increasingly extreme positions on public lands that run counter to the values of the outdoor industry and outdoor community.
Outdoor Alliance supports the Outdoor Industry Association in meeting with Utah lawmakers and sharing the priorities of the outdoor industry with the hope of resolving our conflicts on public lands. We also support their decision to immediately look for a new home for the show if Utah refuses to reverse its positions on transferring public land, gutting conservation tools like the Antiquities Act, and rolling back popular National Monuments.
