Outdoor Alliance Supports Boulder-White Clouds National Monument
The Boulder and White Cloud mountain ranges in central Idaho are amongst the largest unprotected landscapes in the continental US. They boast incredible, unique opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, especially on skis and mountain bikes. With much of the area included in a longstanding proposed Wilderness bill, there is now an opportunity to protect both the place and the recreation access, by designating the Boulder-White Clouds National Monument.
Outdoor Alliance submitted a letter of support for National Monument designation. In it, we highlight the economic contribution of outdoor recreation to Idaho, and the likelihood for economic benefit to local communities as a result of designation. But more than anything, this is about protecting the treasured landscape and the high-quality, existing recreation opportunities – high on Castle Peak, in Ants Basin, and elsewhere.
The backcountry experiences found in the Boulder-White Clouds evoke a deep appreciation of the landscape; skiers, climbers, hikers and mountain bikers alike who visit come away wanting to protect this special place.
